A few years ago, two Rastafarian boys, Tyrone Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea, were denied admission to Achimota School because they failed to cut their dreadlocks.
This caused an uproar on social media, with many people bashing Achimota School for discriminating against the boys.
Tyrone’s admission into the school sparked national debate as the school initially refused to admit him due to his dreadlocks.
The case was heard in a Ghanaian court, and the verdict went in favor of Tyrone Marghuy.
Delivering the judgment on the case, the presiding judge of the Human Rights Court 1 Division of the High Court, Justice Gifty Agyei Addo, held that the Attorney-General failed to provide a legal justification as to why the rights of the two Rastafarian students to education should be limited based on their dreadlocks.
The Attorney General subsequently argued in court that the Rastafarian students had not even completed or returned their acceptance of admission forms and could thus not be deemed to have been denied admission.
But for the students, their parents, and lawyers, this was simply a case of a breach of fundamental rights based on their religion and religious practices.
Well, a viral photo of Tyrone Marhguy’s alleged results has sparked a debate online. The WASSCE results shared on social media show that Tyrone Marhguy has attained 8As.
Meanwhile, Achimota School and Tyrone Marhguy have yet to confirm the reports.
